This Was Only the Start.
July 28, 1914, marked the beginning of one of the most destructive wars in history. A terrorist group, known as the Black Hand from Serbia, shot and killed Franz Ferdinand and his pregnant wife. However, after the assassination of Austria-Hungary's archeduke, conflict between these two countries spread rapidly. This allowed for Europen countries to utilize their secret allies and create a great divide within the continent. The Central Powers were made up of Germany, Austria-Hungray, and the Ottoman Empire. The Allied Powers were the opposing side, which consisted of France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy and later the United States.
